Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre
40th Anniversary Gala
May 7, 2016
The Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre was founded by a small group of dedicated volunteers with the express purpose of bringing quality live theatre to the Staten Island community while providing a creative outlet for local area performing, directing and designing talent. For 40 years, the company has been run by a volunteer Board of Directors and an unpaid staff. During that time, the company has produced or presented almost 200 theatrical events, including classic drama (24 productions of the namesake’s work), contemporary drama and comedy, musical theatre, staged readings and the premier of 15 new works.
On Saturday, May 17th, 2016, IlluminArt Production's Executive Director, Arlene Sorkin, was honored at the Staten Island Shakespearean Theatre's 40th Anniversary Gala. Fellow nominees included David Murphy, Ellen Mitchell, and Brooke Haramija. The entire IlluminArt family celebrated and congratulated Arlene for this well deserved honor. |
Respect for All
February 8th - February 12th, 2016
February 8th - February 12th, 2016
The New York City Department of Education (DOE) Respect for All program began in 2007 as an outlet for both staff and students to actively promote an inclusive community within each public school. Respect for All provides professional development for K-12 school staff, as well as direct services to students. Celebrated one full week every February, Respect for All ran from February 8th to February 12th, 2016.
IlluminArt Productions was proud to perform in “3” Staten Island schools during this amazing week. Our Professional Touring company was invited to PS20, PS30 and PS8, performing Peace Up!, our play about bullying and violence prevention, for over 900 students. Like the New York City Department of Education (DOE), Illuminart maintains the goal of ensuring that every school provides a learning environment where all children feel safe, valued and respected. |
