A Nation of Immigrants
IlluminArt Production’s is proud to bring our latest educational performance, A Nation of Immigrants, to history classrooms throughout Staten Island. Performed by IlluminArt’s Professional Touring Company, this short, 10 minute, informative scene is designed to begin a respectful dialogue about immigration within school communities.
A Nation of Immigrants examines various policies, while attempting to debunk many of the myths associated with undocumented immigration. IlluminArt is acutely aware that these are very sensitive issues, impacting teachers, students and the overall climate within school communities. That is why we consider this production a collaborative effort between IlluminArt's Professional Touring Company, school staff, parents and students.
IlluminArt has researched the most current information from reputable news outlets and governmental websites to create A Nation of Immigrants. In addition, we provide each school with a detailed Post Performance Discussion Guide. This guide provides schools with twenty questions surrounding many of the policy topics explored within the scene and appropriate answers to help further discuss these issues inside the classroom. References have also been provided, verifying our research, to assist school staff and parents with locating additional materials if necessary.
A Nation of Immigrants does not represent any one side of the equation, but instead offers varying perspectives, solidifying the underlying need to respect one’s peers and be mindful opinions relating to politics will most certainly vary.
