"Prescription for Addiction"
Prescription Drugs and Heroin
Prescription for Addiction sheds light on the growing heroin epidemic currently impacting Staten Island. The production examines the evolution of substance use disorder to this deadly drug, including how recreational drug use and prescription medication can provide a catalyst for heroin use. The play also depicts the emotional effects heroin has had for the families who’s lives have been impacted by a loved one’s battle with substance use disorder. Utilizing research from Tackling Youth Substance Abuse (TYSA), students from Susan E Wagner High School, in conjunction with IlluminArt's Touring Company, strike a delicate balance between information, impact, and age-appropriate dramatic interpretation.

Why "Prescription For Addiction" Empowers Youth
IlluminArt Productions understands that when young people are presented with scenes similar to what they might encounter in real life, and are then shown ways to respond appropriately, it empowers them to resist peer pressure. Parents who see this performance will leave with a real understanding of what their teens might be facing and will become better equipped to handle these types of situations. This scene from IlluminArt Productions' original play takes a tongue in cheek look at the "business" of drug dealing featuring Randy Topper, Kristiana Longinotti and Victoria Venezia.
