Write-A-Play

IlluminArt’s Write-A-Play program can be conducted with students of any age. It provides an introduction to
playwriting. In the 5 years we have worked with the 3rd grade at PS 57, ELA scores have risen each year!

The various activities provided by the Write-A-Play program are designed not only to be a unique learning experience, but also provide the opportunity for students to exhibit understanding through exploration, communication, and expression that is not always possible within the daily routine and classroom setting.

Over a 12-20 week period, students learn the elements of a play - setting, characters, conflict, and dialogue. They write plays as a group in collaboration with one another, learn acting and stage techniques, and perform. We add elements that students enjoy like dance, improvisation, and music.
In keeping with IlluminArt’s mission to educate and enlighten, topics incorporated into scenes focus on social, emotional, and character building such as self-awareness, self-management, interpersonal skills, positive life skills and character traits. The short plays are then combined with songs and dances that delight and impress their peers, family and friends.
